Jazz in the Mayenne

This is one of the top events in the French Jazz scene. It is held in the small country village Lignières Orgeres in the north of Mayenne. It first started five years ago when a Parisian with a week end house thought that it would be a good idea too hold this venue using Parisian music students, for organising & publicity, along with top Parisian Jazz stars. The setting is idyllic. It is in the forest of Monnay the main house is a grand example of a French manor with many barns perfect for the many bands to perform till there hearts content & most importantly till our hearts are content.

The group who will kick off at 2 pm is a local band called Big Band from Alençon & Pré en Pail.
Next at 4 pm is Amy Gamlen trio consisting of Amy on the alto sax, Stephane Kerecki on the double bass and Karl Jannuska on the drums.
Next at 6 pm is Bruno Chevillon solo specialising in double bass.
At 8 pm we have the Palan Trio with Dave Golitin on guitar, Sylvain Poslaniec on bass and Fabien Eckert on drums.
At 10 pm Sara Lazarus Quartet with Sara on vocals, Alen Jean Marie on piano, Gilles Naturel on double bass/and Andrea Michelluti on drums bringing the Saturday session to a close.

On Sunday the show is started 2.30 pm by Hourvari with Sebastien Llado on the trombone, Emmanuel Brunet on double bass and Benoist Raffin on drums.
At 4.30 pm we have Alain Jean Marie trio. Alain is on the piano, Fabien Marcoz on the double bass and David Grebil on the drums.
At 18.30 Arnaurd Sacase Quartet with Arnaurd on the sax, Jobic Le Masson on piano, Benjamin Duboc on double bass and Antoine Paganotti on the drums.
Last but not least are Loops with Eric Prost on tenor sax, Francois Gallix on double bass and Stephane Foucher on drums.

If you are in the area it is defiantly worth a gander. If you don't fancy driving home after there is the possibility to camp on the grounds but all said and done the Jazz Festival in Lignières Orgeres is the event of the month and should not be missed. But if you cannot get there, there will be a full report next week after I have sobered up enough to remember the weekend.
